Workflows — An intuitive, drag-drop, low-code/no-code automation workflow tool

The who, what, when, where, why, and how

WHO

All administrative users of IdentityNow.

IdentityNow is a leading SaaS platform for identity security developed by SailPoint. SailPoint has been recognized by Forrester and Gartner Magic Quadrant reports for six consecutive years, demonstrating their industry expertise and excellence.

WHAT

Workflows was a completely new product coming to the platform. As its name suggests, it is a tool that allows users to create complex workflow automation to secure, stay in compliance, and increase their team's productivity while increasing security by removing the guesswork and errors in their identity security program.

It is an intuitive, powerful, drag-drop experience of triggers, operators, and actions.

WHEN

Workflows launched in October 2022 as part of the "Business Plus" suite of products. It was a massive success from its release. It delivered its promise and upsold to the suite in the first few months at 100% above our set Key Results.

WHERE

It lives within the administration of the IdentityNow Platform.

WHY

The pace of onboarding and offboarding applications, employees, bots, and contractors has continuously accelerated since the beginning of our digital age. The pandemic and the now more than ever remote work have added a new level of complexity to the problem. Imagine a stockbroker or a surgeon waiting to gain access for several days after their hiring date.

Automation with a low-code/no-code intuitive drag-drop interface is the key to effectively managing access at this speed while staying secure and in compliance.

HOW

The project started with an idea: "We need an easy-to-use, drag-drop, low-code/no-code automation workflow tool. Engineering had already begun before my team could come in. Sadly, almost two quarters were lost because the focus was on technology rather than users' needs. We started research as soon as possible and discovered quickly that the users' needs did not match the model selected for development. We were able to stir back the ship in the right direction.

It is once again an example of how User Experience Research and Human Centered Design can save time and effort when engaged before any line of code is written.
